Synergy

Syntony Quest is committed to helping other nonprofit organizations also interested in connecting their particular area of work with the overall vision of a more just, peaceful, and sustainable society. Synergy is a process that supports collaborations in particular work areas among like-minded organizations. In the nonprofit sector, partnerships and collaborations are critical for both organizational viability and effectiveness. The nonprofit sector as a whole holds the promise of a more just and balanced society, where work is meaningful and the goals are ethical. Synergy is dedicated to help make it happen, and that’s why it is so needed.

Synergy consists of a structured and facilitated all-day session in which representatives of different nonprofits with common goals collaborate to identify areas of leverage and mutual benefit. The session involves learning to use Evolutionary Systems Design, and the aim is to end up with a plan for implementing an action project that benefits all the organizations involved and enhances their service to the community.

There are two types of Synergy sessions:

Nonprofit organizations get together to explore potential areas of collaboration. Although a particular area of work might be announced for the session (for example, youth empowerment), everybody joins without pre-set agendas or expectations.
A specific organization with an idea or proposal acts as the "focus host" and other organizations join the session to contribute and collaborate on the proposed project. The synergy session is designed with open and creative spaces so that even in this kind of session the outcomes are not predictable and invariably include the voices of all participating organizations.

Purposeful Conversations

Conversation as a mode of disciplined and collaborative inquiry is an important methodology for creating the future. Our aspirations of a more just, democratic, and ethical society require people to listen and to be listened in order to create meaning together and bring about a desired future. This is the spirit of the learning and design conversations of Syntony Quest. These conversations have three interrelated dimensions. First, the dimension of generative dialogue that creates the sense of healthy and authentic community among the participants. Second, the dimension of evolutionary learning, which enables the participants to share a common knowledge base about the what, how, and why of their conversation. And third, the dimension of strategic dialogue that empowers the participants to make choices, take joint decisions, and design the systems in which they work, learn, and enjoy life.
