The following narrative is a snapshot of Syntony Quest as it could be in the future. It is meant to provide an inspirational "future history" of the organization based on the vision of its founders and on the spirit in which we conceived our operations.

SQ2010 — An Ideal Vision

LakeThe year is 2010. Syntony Quest’s main offices are in the Presidio of San Francisco. Its local, national, and international reputation is of an innovative organization which has played a leadership role in the promotion of sustainable pathways for human development in partnership with Earth. The Alliance of Syntony Quest (ASQ) is up and running through its international network of evolutionary learning communities (ELCs) where local evolutionary systems designers (ESDoers) carry out its projects and activities around the world — Mexico, Nigeria, Japan, Italy, China, Brazil, India, Canada, Australia, Germany, Hungary, and South Africa. The ASQ ELCs engage in learning about syntony, sustainability, and evolution with the objective of fostering communities of syntony, social systems of syntony, and eventually entire ecosystems of syntony. So far, these ELCs have been successful in catalyzing the first stage: local communities of syntony. The challenge we are currently facing is how to get these various communities of syntony to begin forming social systems of syntony among themselves, synergizing through intentional collaboration.

At this point, we have individuals who are working in a variety of different types of evolutionary learning communities (ELCs). Some are like the original Syntony Quest office when it began as a family-based system of syntony at the end of the 20th Century. This and similar types of ELCs meet on a regular, if only occasional, basis and are mostly characterized by a learning and design journey of exploration of the models, tools, and methodologies relevant to both furthering understanding of syntony and to the application of this understanding in the co-creation of sustainable and evolutionary futures in day-to-day living. Other ESDoers are in the business world, experimenting with and extending the idea of the learning organization into the evolutionary learning community and, by searching for ways to walk their talk, to become social systems of syntony within their broader organizational environment. It’s particularly tough for these groups; they have reported all sorts of damping pressures from the "business as usual" culture, but there have been occasional break-throughs with the success of a group nucleating and spreading to other areas of an organization almost contagiously. Those ELCs working in the realm of education have had a particularly challenging time. Many are simply breaking away from the educational system as it exists in public and private schooling initiatives. The few that remain within have had to build strong and flexible shells to maintain the integrity and spirit of evolutionary innovation in their ELC, the principal contributors to which are their co-learners. Those in the regional educational labs and other dedicated educational research institutions have undertaken a virtual (r)evolution: go with the money, or go with lifelong learning possibilities. Syntony Quest is viewed as an attractor for the latter… The writing on the wall is fairly legible by now.

And so it goes. From scholars to homecarers, from academia and business to neighborhoods and farms, the "syntony quest" journey to ELC, and from ELC to Ecosystems of Syntony, is becoming reality. It is providing hope, and a means for generating hope, that is not dependent on the whims of a larger, impersonal system, but is emergent, self-directed, and co-created. The challenge now is to start bringing these communities into greater community. From nodes of ELC, as exemplified by ASQ, to entire ecosystems of syntony that span the globe. It is emerging, and Syntony Quest is consciously adapting with it.
